Today was such an awesome day watching the talent of our children!
Today was the 1st Annual Talent Contest of our Haitian children in celebration of our Haitian Heritage!
Thanks to our Mayor, May is now recognized as Haitian Heritage Month here in Massachusetts! It was on May 18th 1804 that our Haitian Flag was officially created and throughout this month I’ve attended our Flag Raising Event at the Boston City Hall, our Haitian-American Unity Parade and Youth and Family Enrichment Serveice’s (YOFES) 1st Annual Festival promoting the talent of our children!
It was beautiful and inspiring to see the courage it took for these kids as young as 6 jump on stage dancing, singing, reciting poetry, demonstrating their work of art and more in representation of our history!!
It was so sweet and it was such a great way to educate and inspire pride in their heritage and remind me and my fellow adults of what we need to constantly be proud of.
The American lifestyle can almost make one forget where ones’ culture began; especially if one was born in America and never visited their country…. from stressing over student loans, credit card bills, working over time, hearing of the latest electronic gadgets, etc. one can get so distracted to the point of losing ones’ identity!
Attending this cultural event has reinforced the pride in my heritage, has reawakened the definition of who I am and inspired me to take part in raising the bar of advancement in our culture.
Today was such a great day! I feel so refreshed and so excited to get involved in our next events! :)
I hope your day was great as well! Thanks for your visit!
